It's time for the Birmingham Aero Club's 75th Anniversary Show! Now in it's 75th year of providing thrilling air shows, Birmingham Aero Club's Wings and Wheels 2008 Air Show and Car Show will return to the Bessemer Airport Saturday and Sunday, September 20 and 21, 2008, for a full two days of non-stop action! Gates open at 10:00 AM each day and the show begins at 2:00 PM. Don't miss the U. S. Air Force Heritage Flight! For the first time in the Birmingham area, both current and World War II-era fighter aircraft will be seen flying together in formation flight! This impressive demonstration typically includes a modern fighter jet paired with a vintage aircraft such as a P-51 Mustang. The Mighty Hercules comes to Bessemer! A workhorse of the modern military, the C-130 Hercules transport is an impressive aircraft both in the air and on the ramp. Don't miss the opportunity for a close-up inspection on the Air Show ramp both Saturday and Sunday. The headline performer this year will be The Aeroshell Team, one of the world’s most accomplished formation acrobatic teams, flying their North American AT-6's. Skydiver Jamie Lynn will open the show descending under canopy with a 65' by 33' American flag in a grand salute to our country! Suzanne Asbury-Oliver will fly a skywriting demonstration and her husband Steve Oliver will fly the Oregon Aero Chipmunk "SkyDancer". Greg Koontz, our local star and nationally recognized performer, will be flying his Super Decathlon. All eyes will be on Greg as he pilots his aircraft inverted only feet from the ground to cut the ribbon stretched across the runway! Acts joining the show for the first time will be Alabama native Joey "Gordo" Sanders flying the AT-6 named "Big Red" and Chuck Vincent flying the Extra 300L. Click here for more information on the exciting acts you'll see at Wings and Wheels 2008. In addition to the military formation flights, sky divers, thrilling air show acts, and beautifully restored antique and custom automobiles, the show will also feature a children's area, static airplane displays, and lots of good family fun. Food and drinks will be available so plan on having lunch at the show! The Bessemer Airport is just off I-459 and minutes from the Riverchase Galleria. Click here for directions to the show.
